About Us

Welcome to Maranatha Baptist Church!

We are an independent Baptist church serving all of Glynn County, GA.

The HISTORY of Maranatha Baptist Church is just that:  “His Story”. The story of what God has done, is doing, and will do.
Maranatha Baptist Church was born in the heart of the founder, Pastor Kenneth Grant. While serving in the United States Marine Corps, Pastor Grant was saved. After nine years of service in the Marine Corps and nine years of growth “in the Lord,” he felt it was God’s will for him to come back home to Brunswick and to start the Bible believing church that we now know as Maranatha Baptist Church.
On July 11, 1987, the first service was held at Seldon Park. There were forty people in attendance. The small assembly held their morning services at the “H” Street Community Center, and their evening services at the home of Pastor Grant. On November 27, 1987, the young assembly covenanted together as a New Testament local church. A charter signing service was held and there were twelve members present.   Out of the twelve charter members, Pastor John Williams, Kelly Williams, and William “G” Grant are still serving faithfully at Maranatha Baptist Church.
In April of 1988, the church services were moved to the Boy’s Club building on Johnston Street, where they were held regularly for just over two and a half years. In December of 1991, the Lord richly blessed the church with a building of its own at 3706 Norwich St.  On December 31, 1991, a Watch Night Service was the first service held in the building.  We continue to meet in the same building.
The church’s ministries are as follow:
• Sunday Morning Bible Activity Training Hour
• Morning Worship Service
• Children’s Church
• Graded Sunday School for all ages
• Church Visitation
• Jail Ministry
• Bus Ministry
• Media Ministry
Pastor Kenneth Grant has since been called to Calvary Baptist Temple of Savannah, Georgia. He preached his last sermon at Maranatha on the fourth Sunday of January 1996.
The church financially and prayerfully supports three missionaries: Challenge Ministries in the United States, Christian Way Mission in China, and Central Missionary Clearinghouse in the Philippines.
It was unforgettable day for Maranatha Baptist church when Elder Michael Young went home to with the Lord on August 29, 2006, succumbing to injuries sustained in the line of duty, while serving as one of Georgia’s finest with Georgia State Patrol.
We are presently under the leadership of Pastor John Williams and Elder Maurice Gray.   Maranatha has six Deacons: Johnny Butts, Shawn Davies, Furman Johnson, Ralph Johnson, Otis Watson, and Jeremiah Woodard.
God continues to bless Maranatha Baptist Church with souls desirous of CHRIST honoring, Bible centered preaching and teaching. The Lord’s command to His church is “occupy til I come.” At Maranatha, we have purposed to do just that.
MARANATHA ! OUR LORD COMETH!!
